Hello everyone, I'm Nick and I am a newbie pellet smoker. Purchased GMG Daniel Boone about a month ago and I have grilled on it and smoked ribs, turkey breast and pork loin so far. I love this grill/smoker and doubt I will ever use anything else other than a pellet grill/smoker. First question...is it okay to use other pellets besides GMG pellets? I have gotten several different answers to this question. Thanks

Sure. I don't have a GMG, but many pellets can work well. I have used Traeger, Pacific Pellets, Louisiana, and Lumberjack. I have an order for 200# of Lumberjack coming in next week.

Welcome to PS.com Nick!

Yes, you can use other pellets than GMG. I use GMG and BBQrs Delight pellets.

Welcome to the forum, from NE Ohio! I'm glad you're enjoying your new pellet grill.

Absolutely, yes! It's fine to use other pellets. Blended pellets will give you the best overall performance in regards to good BTU and low ash production.

Example: 100% hickory burn fairly well and have a great flavor, but produce a lot more ash. In contrast, an oak/hickory blend will burn better, still have a great flavor and produce a lot less ash.

I will add the higher the heat the less the flavor of the pellet matters as much. When smoking from Smoke to 250º I use premium pellets ( BBQ Delight)
