...but I'm also a stick burner.
I have a question about using wood chips to enhance smoke flavor in a Traeger. My plan is to fill a metal box (made for wood chips) with Hickory chips and put it on the back side of the grate in hopes of getting it hot enough to add smoke. Anyone tried that? I've thought about putting it on top of the plate that sits over the fire pot but I might want to refill it and that would be inconvenient during a long cook. Any experience out there?
Thanks,
Randy
P.S. I smoke on a Lang 36 Patio, Traeger Lil Tex, and a Charbroil side smoker.

Welcome!

I've had good luck adding a box of chips next to the firepot, and on top of the deflector plate. I really don't think you'll get enough heat on the back of the grate to get them smoking..

If push comes to shove - look at a Smoke Daddy, and bolt it to the side.

Thanks for the quick replies. Agree, it probably won't get hot enough on the back of the grate. So, will try on top of the deflector plate instead.
As for the amazing smoker, what is it (add on?) and where do I get it.
Thanks again.

You won't get enough heat on the grate to get them smoking well enough.

What you want is something that doesn't take up grate space and doesn't require you to lift your cooker lid everytime you want to check, stir or reload. Look into a Smoke Daddy.

Welcome to PelletSmoking.

Thanks for all of the welcomes. Seems like a really friendly bunch here. Good deal. Hope I can add to the forum.

By the way, I've checked out the Smoke Daddy and Amazingsmoker per your advice. Both look like excellent options. However, I'm going to try putting my wood chip box on top of the deflector plate under the drip pan in the Traeger first so see if that works. If not, you know I'll be going after the one of the other options. I have a packer that I'll put on tomorrow night (before I hit the hay) so I'll give it a try then.

Thanks again for everyone's input.
