My name is Steppy and I'm a pellet smoker

I've had a Traeger Texas 075 for 4 years before they started making them in China and am happy with it. I'd like to try some different pellets, however and would appreciate recommendations. I've been using Traeger pellets, but not happy with the intensity of the smoke, especially the hickory compared to using hickory chunks in my Weber SMS. Thanks !

Traeger pellets, hickory, & maple mostly. I want pellets that will approximate the same intensity as chunk hickory. I'm not competing, but I'm sure that those that are favor certain pellet brands over others and I'd like to know what those are.

Quite a few manufacturers of pellets out there, in my opinion Traeger pellets are not known to be top notch for their flavor/heat quality. BBQ Delight pellets sold right here by bigppoppasmokers.com is a much better product for you in my opinion.

im with ya abut the traeger pellets, hickory and maple i guess are the most popular, ive looked for the garlic and others but cant find them at stores. I'm headed over to big poppas link now.

I second MossyMo's recommendation. BBQ'rs Delight Pellets are 2/3 Oak & 1/3 flavor wood which approximates the type of smoke flavor I get from my charcoal burners using Oak based charcoal with chunks of flavor wood.

Now, smoke intensity is a common issue with pellet cookers. smoke is like salt; too much can overwhelm, but the right amount enhances.

Charcoal starved of oxygen can burn dirty and emit a white billowing heavy smoke that can dominate. I think a lot of people get used to this flavor and expect it. A smaller amount of charcoal with the ample oxygen burns hot giving off a cleaner light blueish smoke that enhances. This is exactly the type of smoke that pellet cookers give with none of the work.

If you like a strong Hickory flavor, try an order of BBQ'rs Delight Black Walnut. I think you'll like them.
