New MAK2...Dealer Or Self Assemble?

Just wondering...I'm purchasing a MAK 2 and the dealer has offered free assembly and delivery. Should I take him up on the assembly or do it myself? Either way, I can't wait! :D

SInce Im a dealer (the number one) this is probably the wrong place to ask....we can sell you a grill and give you great service though!

What is there to assemble besides putting the casters on the bottom?
Is that the case? I don't know. I've never owned a MAK or seen one unboxed. If that's the case, I'd rather do it myself. I was told that the base has to be assembled and attached to the main cooker body. Also, the smoke compartment has to be attached.

He's actually a good dealer. He cooks and demos on every cooker he sells. He demoed the MAK 2 for me prior to my deciding. Can someone tell me exactly how much assembly is required? I'm not intimidated, just wondering.

4 legs, bolt the main body on.. bolt on the smoker box and wa la! 30 mins and 2 beers later your smoking.. I would compare prices with your dealer and BP, not just that be concerned with customer service should you have issues. I know from experience BP is TOP NOTCH!

The main body assembly weighs a "ton" so you will have to have a helper to help you stand it up once you have bolted on the legs. Trust me, I have assembled 2 of those bad boys. Assembly is not difficult at all. It can easily be done but standing that bad boy up is definitely not a one person job.

On the MAK 2 Star I didn't know either, which is why I asked. I'm glad I did because you got your answer. :)

With the MAK 1 Star all I had to do was screw in the casters & attached the stainless steel handle (two screws).

Even if you order from the other dealer, order some pellets, sauces, etc. from BPS to help keep this great forum going!

Ditto! They are not easy to stand up.

I've put three together. One of them I assisted on. The other two I did solo. It can be done solo if you're careful standing it up after the legs and wheels are on. Assembly is a snap. All the important components are already assembled. All you need to assemble are the legs, casters, bottom and back panel, warming tray, tool rack and handles.
If you take your time and are not rushing it, it'll take about 45 minutes solo. Add a beer or two and it'll take longer. Add a friend or two and it'll take a little less time depending on the friends and the beer factor. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being very difficult) it's about a 2 or 3 due to the weight and awkwardness of standing it upright solo.
A cordless drill or screwdriver with a hex head is very handy and will shave time off the install.
That dealer is offering the service because he knows it's easy and some guys are just not handy with a screwdriver and will buy from him so they don't have to deal with it.
If you can handle a screwdriver, or better yet a cordless screwdriver, you can buy from whoever offers you the best combination of price and service and assemble yourself. I bought my 2 star in 2009 directly from Bob Tucker as I was his 2nd paying customer on a 2 Star. Not sure if Bob sells anymore since he has so many dealers but he only has one #1 dealer! Do your homework.
