New meat slicer advice

I have been on the fence if it is worth buying a meat slicer and if so what to get. I see that Cabella's has some but the price range is all over the place. Any thoughts on what a good one is that is decently priced? It is only for home use.

I've got a Waring Pro FS150L (about 100 bucks) that works just fine for Pastrami, brisket, pork loin, and ham.

I picked up a Kalorik Slicer on Amazon, usually you can find them for 75 -85 bucks. It does a decent job for light - medium duty slicing.

Haha -- that is the exact same slicer I have, with a different label. I'm sure you can find the same slicer under fifty different names if you try. Maybe a Big Poppa brand slicer will be next?

Hey there is probably one big slicer plant in China cranking them all out!

Reminds of the slimy electronics salesman who would always go to the "it has Sony Guts" line when trying to pimp an off brand VCR or CD Player.

I have a Chef's Choice 610. Around $125 including the non-serrated 'deli' blade.. It's eaten quite a few turkey boulders and Italian beef roast beasties.

The Deni, Chef's Choice, Waring, etc are all the same... and for light duty slicing, I would suggest a nice slicing/carving knife instead.

If you need something with some teeth to it, try to find a used commercial slicer. Auctions, EBay, Craigslist.... they are typically all over. We got a Fleetwood 312E for $300 and it can actually slice anything. (brisket can fall apart or bog down inferior units)

The commercial ones are also much easier to clean.... so if you can afford the uptick in price - about double the best residential unit.... go used. Search for Hobart, Fleetwood, Berkel, etc. And happy hunting!

Go to e-bay and do a search for 10" food slicer. You should find many to chose from. I bid for about a month until I finally won the bid for $150. Won a new in the box commercial 10" slicer. Love it.
