Pellet Boss question

Let me preface this by saying this is my first post and I am taking the plunge into pellet smokers for the first time so I wish to make the most educated decision I can. Please forgive me I do not mean to offend anyone with my question.

I had a local Memphis dealer tell me today that the Pellet Boss Control board is manufactured overseas where as the Memphis control board is manufactured in the U.S., is there any truth to that?

I have no idea where the electronics are manufactured no do I care. But I would guess 95 percent of ALL computer boards are made outside the US. It's neither here nor there. The truth of the matter is that the pellet boss by Mak, is by any standards, the finest made anywhere.

WOW... I understand this is a dealer who doesn't know the truth and not Memphis so no offense taken. Please don't take offense to my passion flowing in the reply below :)

Whether or not you buy the MAK one thing I can absolutely assure you it is not made overseas! Now is every part on the circuit board made in the USA, no (neither is anyone else) sadly most of the chips and what not you can't get domestically anymore. We are actually the only manufacturer I know of that makes our own controller. We make the base plate here at the factory, we buy the laminates and the circuit boards locally. Then our partner here does all the assembly, wiring and final soldering. We also make the Remote Boss, Bluetooth Chip and Wi-Fi Chip as well (why do you think they cost a lot). Because of all this we have full control over the quality, firmware, innovation etc. making us the leader in the industry for innovative designs and features. This also gives us the ability to work back wards and not leave our customers behind, customers who bought a grill 2 years ago can add the MAK Grills Mobile Wi-Fi just release last month right to their existing controller. Not just the controller but everything we do has this mind set. I could go on and on...

Besides all of that we are borderline fanatics when it comes to this topic because it affects US Jobs and our manufacturing/economy. We are Members of the Made in the USA Foundation, Made in America Movement, Made in USA Certified (the only grill manufacturer to have this cert), and so on. "proud to be American Made", we tout these things for a reason, its what we believe in!

Sorry if I got a little carried away, this topic is important to me as you can see :)

Rick,

Thank you for your reply and I understand that many pcb's are manufactured overseas. This is less a concern for me than it may appear because the warranty would certainly cover it for a period of time, but what I am really after is to find out if this dealer is "talking out his rear" in order to sway my purchase. I like to know what kind of people I am dealing with as it has a huge impact as to wether I ever set foot back into his store or not.

I am leaning towards MAK due to price point as well as the extreme versitilty of the Pit Boss.

Not to get anyone in trouble but YES that is a false statement made by the dealer. Happy to straighten it out with him if you like :)
BPS carries both Memphis and MAK, BP knows both well and will tell you the same thing if you ask.

Well I think Makdaddy settled that question. If you want a dealer who does NOT talk out his rear call Big Poppa. He will give you the info you need and the best deal out there. BTW you will love a MAK!

MAK DADDY,

I understand that many of the components on the pcb are no longer manufactured in the US, and to expect that would certainly be over the top. It was my understanding after a month of research into smokers that MAK was American made top to bottom and you have confirmed that again, thank you. What I find comical about this is that he feels threatened enough about loosing a sale to MAK that he has to lie.

No apology necessary for your passion, this country needs many more like you in my opinion. Keep the faith!

If you wish to put a boot in this guy's rear, or just want to set him straight I will leave that up to you.

Rick,

I will be dealing with BP without a doubt when I pull the trigger, in the mean time I am going to have to figure out how to keep my excitement under control. I feel like a 5 year old at Christmas! :D

The truth will set you free cwazup! No other pellet manufacturer controller can touch MAK's PelletBoss. I loaned my PB with WiFi control to my friend/neighbor (smokeslinger) two weeks ago. His WiFi module just arrived so I'll get my PB w/WiFi back now! lol

cwazup, I also felt like a 5 year old at Christmas when I was getting ready to order my grill. I went with the MAK 2 Star and after just over a year of use, I still feel like a 5 year old every time I fire up my MAK. I never used to receive compliments on my bbq, now I get compliment after compliment, after compliment, and I owe it all to the MAK and the wonderful people from this forum that have provided tons of advice.

I ordered my 4 Star and am looking forward to having wifi as soon as it is available. I'm having an island built for the MAK and will have to endure seeing it sit in my garage until the install is completed.

Mak Daddy - That your product is made in the USA (and the Pacific NW) is one of the MAIN reasons that I purchased your product. I wish more manufacturers would be as concerned as you are about providing living wage jobs to US workers. You have a great story!

Thanks, I deleted the dealer info so it's not public here. Thanks for checking into the claim and pass the word around for us about MAK being committed to Made in the USA. Whether or not that makes a difference to every single person doesn't matter because it makes a difference to us :)
