Pig skin into dog treats?

I saved the skin from the last batch of bacon I made.

Does anyone have a recipe/method to make dog treats out of pig skin?

I removed the skin after I cured and smoked the bacon, so it is "full cooked", not that the dogs care.

How about some chicharrones for the dog's owner? Smoked pig skin turned into chicharrones is good eats.

I would think if you rolled it up and dehydrated it, should be the same as a rawhide stick. Maybe smoke it over hickory, the golden retriever we had before our current one wouldn't eat treats unless they were hickory smoked, wise dog he was!

Good to see I'm not the only one who does that! Hey you paid for that skin the same as the meat!

Art is right, they are good eats for the pooch's owner too... I munch on 'em! If you like pork rinds, they're quite tasty done on a smoker!

They're easy to stick on while you're cooking something else (to save on pellets). We did this with the skin from the picnic ham at Xmas.

There's two ways I like to do them:

Smoke them for a while, then cut & fry them up (for people treats). Or...

Do them totally in the smoker like this: http://www.pelletsmoking.com/pelletsmoking-com-gallery-10/thrown-dogs-554/

I agree with Marty; Hickory's a good choice because of the smell, but any smoke will work.

Your pooch will love you Bent!

Edit - P.S. the rolled rawhide treats are usually cowhide. If you do that with pork skin be sure to scrape off all fat then maybe even boil first to get all fat out. Otherwise it could go rancid
