Pipes & Cigars?

About 12 years ago I my older brother sat me down in his backyard patio after dinner and talked me into smoking a cigar with him. His favorite at the time was Dominican Cohibas (still is) so that's what he gave me. Up to that point I thought cigar smoke stunk and I only smoked it because he was my brother and it sounded like something fun and relaxing we could do together while hanging out on his patio.
Well, much to the dismay of my wife, I kind of liked it which started me on the path to finding and smoking some of the best cigars I could afford including the forbidden leaf from a certain island south of Miami which became my favorite leaf over leaf grown anywhere else on the globe. My favorites brands were Cohiba, Bolivar, Partagas, RyJ and just about any other brand from Cuba I could get my hands on. My preferred size is a corona or robusto.
Smoking cigars lead me to the world of pipes and pipe tobacco. I started out liking english blends but settled in on aromatics and virginias smoked out of full bent pipes
I have to say that smoking pipes is more enjoyable to me than smoking cigars but I thoroughly enjoy the ritual surrounding smoking either of them.

Does anyone else share an appreciation for pipes or cigars? I know BP does! What do you smoke?

i went to my sister-n-laws wedding along time ago. my other brother-n-law walked outside and gave me a davidoff. it was so nice. the flavor was mellow. i loved it. started smoking cigars that week. that was over 20 years ago. i love davidoff 2000, AF double chaetua, romeo & julieta / cohibas cuban coronas and don carlos pipes. i like a straight pipes or a 1/4 bend w/ davidoff pipe tobacco. love dunhill pipes. they smoke soooooo smooth. use to be the night manager of a tinder box smoke shop for 4 years.

Although I do not smoke cigars or pipe tobacco it does not bother me being around pipe tobacco. My grandfather was always smoking pipe tobacco and whenever I smell it I get a big smile as it reminds me of him when I was little. :)

I usually vacation in Cuba every second year and always bring back a few boxes of Cohiba and Romet and Juliet's. I dont smoke them often but they are by far the best you can get!

I love a good cigar. I smoke too many as it is. But my go to cigars are from the Drew Estate. I love the aroma and flavor that he gets aging his cigars in aroma rooms. There are not many big name brands I have not tried. I just prefer the flavor of what he does with Acid, Tabak Especial, Isla Del Sol and a Copper Label made exclusively for an online site.

I'm a big fan of CAO - The anniversarie Camaroons used to be my fav, but I have branched out alot since then. Cain has some nice smokes, I love a good Camacho Corojo or Triple Maduro.

Drew Estate was one of the Cigar Companies that helped at our Wounded Warriors Cigar-BQ function on West point. They had some cigars/bundles for the cooks that were stellar, and also a nice spread in the goody bags for the folks there. So I am looking closer at the drew estate stuff now.

I'm a toro/robusto kind of guy myself, but like several different sizes.

SS, what type of pipe tobacco do you smoke? Do you have any virginias aging?

wneill, what do you smoke? And we could do a whole thread on just what drinks go best with cigars! For whatever reason, I found a chocolate shake went best with cigars! Never could figure out why but they just did. Other than that, a good single malt scotch with a cube of ice or even just water sometimes.

Andy, do you smoke at contest? I see pictures of Moe Cason with a belicoso or a fat robusto at contests.

Often see pics of BP and the boys with those special cigars from down south! Partagas PSD4 I think BP? The ones with the red band with gold letters.

Scooter, I just have been sampling the Tobacco Barn's Blends that they have, I don't do it nearly as often anymore, as they have deemed all Pipes whether it be they be your standard tobacco pipe or some lil pot pipe it's considered drug paraphernalia now here in Afghanistan..... :(

Scooter, I do like to partake of a smoke at the comps... Usually right about 10p-11p or so, everything done, making the rounds and sit down for a smoke before puttin' the meat on. 2nd favorite time at a comp. #1 time at a comp is right about 5:30 when I am working marinade for chix, etc. -- it is quiet outside, there is a little haze of smoke over all the camps and the sun is just starting to peek out.
Love that first stretch of the morning. BBQ Zen goin on... the calm before the storm!

Hi Barbara, have you tried smoking a cigar? I mean a fine cigar. So many people try the cheap drugstore brands (White Owl, Swisher Sweets etc) and they taste nasty and think cigars are nasty. It's sad. A fine cigar is a wonderful thing to savor while relaxing with a drink and a view.
