Question about outdoor kitchens

In the process of designing an outdoor kitchen. I was thinking of using a Memphis built in pellet smoker as well as, a traditional gas grill. After a long talk with Big Poppa today, I'm leaning towards using two pellet smokers. Suggestions?

I had long talk with him too.
Smart guy!
I think there are 2 built in companies to choose from: MAK and Memphis.
I stumbled onto this site just in time to change my mind from a 42" Alfresco propane grill to a pellet smoker!
I think I'll be much happier with this than the propane, though am still putting in a propane side burner.
Be sure to put in a hood to handle the smoke and backsplash behind the grill and hood to avoid smoke/grease staining. My hood fan is rated 1500 cfm with remote/roof mount fan to cut down the noise. I was told hood front it should overhang the grill front by 6" but I think mine will not. This is supposedly to capture smoke web you open grill. Mine overhangs just a little bit.
I was originally going to put in the Memphis elite but changed my mind to MAK because all rave reviews and users. Costs more and slightly bigger than Memphis elite.
Not sure why you would need 2 grills when one can do it all.
Let us know what you pick and share photos when it's done!

Tricky,
Thanks. I am going with two grills because I want to be able to smoke and grill at the same time. I have to look more into the hood, not quite sure how they do it with no back wall to mount it on.

Ok here we're some of his concerns

That he wouldn't be able to cook a steak
That he would need to buy an expensive gas grill

I imagine that if your outdoor kitchen is covered by a roof, you could drop a hood through the ceiling. If it's just outside with no overhead roof or coverage, I suppose a hood wouldn't be of much use, though smoke drift might be an issue or not.. time will tell!

I can appreciate the dilemma about wanting to grill and smoke at the same time. Let's say you want to eat Brisket for dinner but want to grill dogs/brats/burgers or steaks for lunch. I don't know how easy or not you could do that on one pellet grill as mine isn't installed yet. I think it is possible with the double fire-pot models though. It might take longer for the brisket, in this example, to be finished however, since you'd be opening the cover to manage the other product.
Heck, if you've got room for 2 grills, I say GO FOR IT! I didn't plan for this possibility, as I hadn't heard of pellet grills/smokers until my project was well under way.
Let us know how your plan turns out!
