Question: Time to High Temp

How long should my 2 Star take to get from 200 to 500+? yesterday i tried a reverse sear and it took almost a half hour. Is that normal?

I live in Hermosa Beach (not to far from La Quinta) so it was about 70 outside. I really did not get the sear I was looking for at all. It was the first time so I may do another test run today. On the Mak can you just go from 200-500 by increasing the temp on the Pellet Boss or should I shut down and restart?

Yes sounds normal, 450 is the highest controlled temp on the 2 Star. "High" just gets whatever can be achieved by the pellets you are using and ambient temps (up to 500 MAX). If the flame zone is uncovered it will be around 50 to 100 degrees hotter at the grate level.

I assume your using the flame zone. That said when the pit probe is showing 450 that is the air in the chamber. The temp from what is coming through the flame zone is different.

Yes this was with the flame zone on and the small flame zone cover on the other half. I am going to try this again this evening with some chicken.
