Rethinking my 2 Star order...advice needed

Yesterday I ordered a 2 Star General from BPS. My plan was to use the 2 Star for smoking and then pick up a weber summit grill center for my regular grilling. The price of the grill center will be $4999. The more I think about it, I could have gone with a 4 Star General for the same price as the 2 Star plus the weber and just have my contracor build a small island with room for the 4 star.

I know I would be losing the rotisserie and the side burner - which I most likely would never use. Can I get the same or better performance from just the 4 Star?

BTW - Bob, if you read this, don't ship my 2 star yet :)

I saw your email...I know is was 4:30...The 4 Star is the very best pellet grill made. Period. Searing is such a subjective deal....do any pellet grills sear as wear as an infrared or charcoal? No but the 4 star gets so hot that with the grill grates or searing zone along with the flame zone it is crazy close. It gets at least 200 degrees hotter than the 2 star...get this you can set one firepot to smoke and the other to high and you get the best of moth worlds

The Four Star is state of the art and so much fun to cook on!

I think the 4 star would be the way to go. Shoot me an email with any suggestions you have for additional items with it. I have some grill grates here - I use them with my Wolf Indoor unit.

I have a couple of quick questions on the 4 star:

Do I need access under the unit after it is built in?
Does it have the same trapdoor system as the 2 Star for emptying pellets?
Is there a cover made for it?
One power cord or two?

All of us are drooling except maybe TrickyDick! Never seen one, but as the owner of a 2 star and weber genesis, probably the right choice! The only grilling I do on my genesis is burgers and dogs because I have a half flame zone, and I need the area when a bunch of kids are over. A 4 Star would solve that problem, but wife isn't convinced yet!

If you have any doubts on how the 4 Star cooks you can put them to rest. My comp team uses the one and only 4 Star prototype in competition. We took 3rd place pork and 1st place brisket with it and ended up Reserve Grand Champions at Kings of the Que 2013.
It's a solid cooker.

You're starting to make me think I should buy the rolling base and invest in a trailer instead of doing a built-in installation ;)

No access underneath accept for the grease tray that pulls out from the center.
No, it doesn't have a pellet dump door but the hoppers are right in front for easy access.
Yes a cover ships with the grill.
One power cord.

You can add the base to your built in island (without the wheels) if you want the pull out drawer underneath. Or you can leave it blank or add a cabinet etc.

Here is a pic of my built in install. I understand Sax is going to NOT be putting his against a wall, so the other pics I took of the sides and rear I left out of post to save bandwidth, as they are irrelevant. The front pic shows the grease tray.

This next side pic shows how far the hopper sticks out, which I find to actually be VERY useful as additional counter space for working with the grill and handling the food, etc. very thoughtful design. The protrusion doesn't really deter access to the cabinetry below. I use one cabinet for storing my ash bucket, and sweeper, and another I can store accessories, like the tube smoker, frogmat a when not in use, and accessories for my gas side burner, a water pan, etc.

Also you can see the single power cord, which is easily tucked out of the way.

Whatever you build your MAK up onto is going to get hot. My cabinets are made of some resin material, except the doors which are teak wood. They tried to build up some risers on the lower cabs with leftover resin, but was starting to melt, so they had to change that out for something else. Not sure if they used 2x6's or some incombustible wallboard.

Hope this helps with your planning.
