Reverse Seared Hamburgers?

Is it possible to reverse-sear hamburgers? If so, is it a good idea? If anyone has tried it, were you successful? Was there more smoke flavor in the burger?

So, what is your techinique? How long do you smoke the burgers before removing them and cranking up the heat? I was thinking 30 minutes of smoke, remove and place in warmer drawer while heat gets high enough, then back on for the finish.
