Smoke on lid coming off in sheets

The lid seems to have a fair deal of smoke
Buildup. How to clean? Sheets are falling off. So far not on food thankfully.

Do I need to remove the lid? For cleaning?

Nope..just take a steel brush and give it a scrub.

that is a good sign it means you are using it...

How do I scrub the lid though? It's behind the back shell when lid is opened.

I take ours off to clean it on our two star

Two philips screws, one on either side of the lid, lid comes right off.
