So, do your kids know how to cook?

One of the side effects of this hobby (at least in my world) is that my kids know how to cook. The 18 and 19 YO will make things from scratch (mac and cheese for example) just because they like it better. They also know alot of the "whys", mostly from watching Alton Brown. Even our 6YO has been scrambling his own eggs in the morning.

They haven't really expressed an interest in smoking, but they get enough of that from me...

A while back my daughter had a friend over, and the subject of making cookies came up. So she got out the butter, sugar, etc to start. The friend says "That's not how you make cookies", reaching for the fridge door. "you slice and bake" LOL. Needless to say she got a lession in cookies from scratch.

We had an extra kid staying with us for the summer and I heard alot of "I didn't know you could make that"

Yes, both my kids can cook for themselves. My youngest is quite the accomplished baker. She makes and hand decorates cakes, cupcakes and cookies from scratch all the time and they rival and, in some cases, surpass what I've had from high end bakeries.
Neither of them has expressed initiative to learn BBQ and/or grilling yet. They will baste/spray for me when I'm away from the house but that's about it.

Both of my kids are definitely learning and can cook quite an assortment of things already.

My son's cooking skill's came into good use while he was in college. He used his Caesar salad making skills while he was dating his to be wife. Both he and his wife love to cook. I get calls periodically from my daughter-in-law about cooking. This all makes for a close knit family.

My 12 year old took over grilling the steaks on the charcoal grill this summer and has done very well. He is starting to take an interest in the smoker.

My girls have been cooking/competing since they were 5 yrs old. They have grilled steaks, chicken, pork chops, sausage, and hamburgers. My younger one is more into helping with dinner right now, but if you tell the older one that the grill is on she is all over it. lol.

Both of my son's are great cooks. I have always cooked our evening meals,and the boys always wanted to help. The youngest (24) is home for a few months and has taken my smoker on some interesting adventures. The oldest(32) got married, and luckily to a pro baker.. how lucky can a father be..

Both of my children 18 and 15 respectively cook very well. The 18 year old can cook just about anything that I can, and my 15 year old does very well. He frequently gets up and makes himself bacon and eggs in the a.m. and can grill just about anything. I would like to think that I have taught them well, but I think that Boy Scouts had a little to do with the son (15 yr old).

My four year old son has started to show great interest in grilling his own hot dogs.
