Thinking of Buying a Traeger Junior

I currently have a Big Green Egg. Bought it a month ago used and don't really like it. Way too much work. Takes forever to get it to the right temperature and then have to watch it constantly. I'm thinking of selling it and getting a Traeger Junior. Any thoughts comments? A friend has a Traeger, don't know which model, and he loves it. Says he does;t have to fuss with it at all. Just set the temp and he's good to go.

I have a Traeger and absolutely love it. However, the more I use it, the more I realize it's a "gateway" smoker to the real bad boys. If I had to do it over again, and someday soon I hope to, I'd buy the Mac. Much more control and even temps within the box.

As a side note, Traegers are now made in China. Macs are made right here in Oregon. That's a big incentive for me.

Like tbone says.. it's a gateway. Go ahead and do it right the first time. Get ya a Mak from Big Poppas. You will not regret it!

If your looking to try out the waters. A jr is good choice as you could sell it and recoup about half your investment as they are popular with the Motorhome crowd. Or keep it yourself for tailgating camping etc. You will out grow it . If your looking for one purchase that will be your "Pellet Grill" . I would save for a MAK or Memphis Grill. I am very partial to our MAK grills as we like Sparky own multiple MAK Grills.
Big Poppa describes the MAK Grill as the cooks tool and I agree.

Mak Grills are no doubt the Gold Standard for pellet grills. I have a Green Mountain Danile Boone that has been a set and forget no fuss smoker. Today I just pick up a Green Mountain Jim Bowie. There will be a Mak Grill in the barn before the end of the year. Whatever you get welcome and happy smoking.

In order to really appreciate the quality of construction and functionality of a MAK, you need to own an entry level pellet cooker first!
Having said that, it will save you money in the long run by starting with a pellet cooker that you will own for a lifetime. I know from experience. I bought a Lil Tex and four months later sold it at a loss and bought the 3rd production 2 Star off the line. I learned a lot from the Traeger but never looked back after buying my 2 Star.
