Traeger Related Smokers

I was just given a Traeger Smoker with auto feed pellet augar and variable smoke and temperature settings. The big question here is the temperature adjustment that just doesn't seem to be able to keep temperature low enough to properly allow for long low temperature smoking. Does anyone out there have the Traeger augar feed system and know how to keep the temperature around 250 deg.? Even on the low heat setting the temperature goes to the 350-375 deg and doesn't allow for the long cooking/smoking times. Suggestions please..........

My experience is with a vertical two tier wood and water system fired by propane. A 12 hour smoke is common place in my home and the meat just falls off the bone, like butter.

You must have a 3-postion temperature control (Smoke, Med, High). Upgrade to the digital thermostat kit -- Smoke averages 180*. Even with the digital thermostat, you will see the temperature fluctuate 10-20*.

In my early days with a Traeger, I had the 3-position, it was challenging to get the right outcomes. I upgraded to the digital and my troubles went away, and the amount of pellets that went up in smoke for nothing were put to better use in cranking out briskets and pork shoulders.

Enjoy the Traeger, once your hooked on the pellet smoker you'll be looking to upgrade quickly.

I also recommend spending the 100 dollars and getting digital temperature control, like someone else said, the smoke setting will hover around 180 degrees. It is pretty much just a plug in unit, my grill came with a wiring diagram, since yours was given to you, you may need to search for one.
