What do you do in real life?

Was scouring pod casts just trying to find a good one to listen to on the way to work. One of them was saying that the majority of BBQ’ers are in the high tech industry. Hay, that is me. Figured I would see what all you guys do for a living.

I work in the semiconductor industry as a contractor at Intel. Currently working on a prototype EUV scanner. The thing is the size of a big rig and is designed to shoot the smallest semiconductor circuits. And the cost of this thing is crazy $100,000,000+. Very interesting work.

I'm a CFO for a defense company making UAV's (unmanned aerial vehicles) and electro-optic payloads (eye in the sky). Last year our bird facilitated a southern neighbor in making an $800 million drug bust. Fun stuff. Makes you look forward to the weekend BBQ.

Not to make fun of this thread, I find it interesting....but I always thought this kind of stuff (BBQ, friends, etc.) was real life and the other stuff was, well, work. That said, yeah, IT pays the bills.

I operate a motor grader for three years now. I have a well rounded past like Sparky, but in different fields; truck driver for a few years, inside sales and partner coordinator for Microsoft for 3 1/2 years, input data for GPS software for a few years where my wife is still working and I sold cars for 12 years.

I am a stay-at-home mom for 2 beautiful, smart, nutty girls (who often drive me crazy)! Add Andy (HoDeDo) to the list of work and that makes me a very busy gal, between the housework, comp work, and the SOW biz.

I supervise a team of network technicians working for SUPERVALU Inc of Eden Prairie MN. Been there for 26 years. Was told in Feb me and my whole team will be laid off at the end of this summer. Then the company posted some new positions opening up and I applied and got one of them so my 26 year career will continue for now. Wish I could say the same for my team. :(

Spark, you've had one heck of a diverse ride brother! What boat where you on up on the Bering Sea?

Man i am boring. Bearing sea sounds like a blast. Staying up for 24-30-more hours doesn't. Drug busts. I just watch a blue bar move across the screen, and slowly.

I'm a general contractor now specializing in residential remodel. Not so easy to do all the big stuff like when I was younger- the heavy lifting, falling off roofs etc.(I don't bounce so good anymore) :(

My main job is owning a wholesale shade tree nursery. We ship trees across the US and Canada. Our main customers are landscapers but we sell to homeowners. We also own a buffalo ranch that sells meat to local customers, connected to that we own a meat processing plant in Nampa, ID.
That is why I like to kick back and enjoy smoking meat. It gives me time to slow down.
