For the last 15 years I have worked for a navigation software company. I am not the one at fault for the bad directions however - mainly did work for the European countries and now the last few years I am testing software for them.

Hmmm, right now I am the Licensing Agent for a Tribal Gaming Commission. But...the road to get me here has been a real long one, I have worked in Indian Gaming off and on since I was 16, back then that was the age you could start working in Tribal Bingo/Casino. I have had many jobs in my life time such as a Day Camp Counsler at the ripe old age of 15. I worked in just about every job position inside a Bingo Hall that you could ever think of, my last job at the Bingo Hall I was the Lead Bingo Caller at the age of 18. I also spent about 4 years inside a Saw mill and just like my previous employer I worked in many different positions inside the Saw Mill, but...I never got to run 3 of the main production equipment and they were Enddogger, Head Rig, and the Quad Saw, and one other positioin I never got to do was being a millwright. Early in 1999 I got back into Indian Gaming this time it was the Casino side of things and the only two departments I never got to work in was Security and the Cage and worked in the Casino until Oct of 2007 I then transferred to the Tribal Gaming Commission or the Regulatory side of Indian Gaming and I was hired on as a Tribal Gaming Agent aka "TGA" and my job duties were almost like I was a Policeman...but in the Casino only. Then in July of last year I transferred to my current position...which opened a few new doors to my life and I took advantage of and that was adding Assistant Defensive Coach at the High School here and last fall the school made its first ever State Playoff birth.

I know he was pimping both of us....its all good...Hows the smoker?
The new smoker is doing ok i still need to tweak it a bit. For some reason the last two times i have used it at 225 for a couple of hours it drops temp down to 150 and just sits there. i have to do a restart and the temp swings the other way up to 375 i think it is not exhausting enough air and i am chocking it down.
Anyway it looks like you have been doing well at this years competitions keep it up the work.

Great thread! I should log in more often.

Growing up here in the Northwest, I ended up putting my way through school fishing on boats up in Alaska. Not like Sparky though. Those crabbers are crazy! I went the easy way and seined for salmon in Southeast. After college, I ended up in the computer industry. Started as a tech, and ended up with a CD / DVD rom manufacturing company for about 20 years. Did a lot of work for Microsoft, Intel, Apple, HP, and anyone who used to provide drivers for their products. When money dried up (at the end of the Bush admin), we ended up selling and going in a new direction.

Today I'm partners with a small engineering / product development company who has specialized in LED lighting. If I can brag here, we were the first to gain acceptance from the US DOE for our linear (T8 style) LED lighting. It is one crazy roller coaster. Most certainly an E ticket ride.

As a side note to Sparky and flavorguy - my son competed in the barista comp a couple of years ago. Ended up going to the finals in Anaheim. I think he placed 4th or 5th in the Northwest and 23rd in the nationals. What an industry! I'm drinking some Costa Rican blend right now. It's my drug of choice. :)

After flunking out of college (twice) I quickly joined the Navy. Vietnam was going on and the Army was looking for cannon-fodder at the time. Spent seven years in the Navy on submarines as a sonar technician. My wife, new son and I moved back to the Washington, DC area where I went to work for a large main frame computer company (Control Data - no longer around today) for the next 18 years as an applications analyst dealing with cost schedule and control software, a salesman and sales manager selling large mainframe computers to the Federal government. During my first couple of years I went back to school and picked up an Associate's Degree and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, at night. Left for a smaller computer company that was looking to set up an organization to sell to the Federal government. That didn't work out so well. They weren't really serious, so I left. I was pretty well burned out on the computer industry, so I went back to school and picked up my Master's Degree in Education. I became a high school math teacher for the next 18 years. The pay was not what I was used to making, but I was having fun and enjoying working. I became a track coach in my spare time and thoroughly enjoyed that. After having two major back surgeries, I felt that I needed to retire, which I did. In fact, my wife had a major back surgery about the same time as my second surgery, so we got to sample retirement at home together while we were recovering. We didn't kill each other, so that was when we decided that we could survive retirement together. Moved to North Carolina to be closer to our son and his wife. Now we have a grandson that gets spoiled every chance we get. I have always enjoyed cooking. I got that from both my Mom and Dad. I even cooked several meals on-board the submarine on a couple of our trips. I ran out of food the first time I cooked because the marinated hand-cut filets were so good, they kept eating them until we ran out and not everyone got the protein they were looking for. I didn't make that mistake again. Today my wife and I are enjoying retirement together. We travel a fair amount, and I am still trying to get to do all the things I retired to do. I have picked up too many new things that occupy my time (like the pellet grill, smoking food, and sausage making). I hunt and fish every now and then, too. Haven't been able to play as much golf as I had hoped, even though we built a house on a golf course. About the time my back started feeling like I could play occasionally, I had to have rotator cuff surgery. That has set me back a few more months. Life in general is good. I have enjoyed corresponding with a number of the people I have met on this web site. I have even met a few in person and am looking forward to meeting more in the future.

Wow! What cool things people do! For 22 years, I was a TV News and Production Cameraman in So.Cal. The wife talked me into semi-retirement and moving up to NorCal, where she's got a great job as an RN and I'm a bicycle assembler at Target. Yeah...a bicycle assembler at Target! Needless to say, I'm looking for something better. It's tough not being in the news biz anymore. I used to say it's a good thing I found News, because there isn't anything else I can do...hope I wasn't right!
