OK I am still learining the trends of the business...In the winter die hards cook and buy stuff....in the spring and fall it is sort of nuts...If there is a heat wave in the USA my sales and traffic slows down like the deepest January...
I cook year round pretty much no matter what. Heat here in N.E. Ohio is usually accompanied by high humidity, and it just zaps the energy right out of you. But like Jim said, it keeps the whole house form heating up. And winter rain is just plain miserable.
I only cook when I am hungry ;-)
I cook OFTEN
I lived in Englewood, Colorado and I used my smokers and my Weber from early spring until late fall, but during the winter I just used my gasser. Now that I live in Georgia, only storms or the occassional cold snaps prevent me from cooking outdoors. I have built a grilling deck off of my screened in porch. In the summer I turn on the ceiling fans and keep my beer cooler at arms reach. I can sit and visit with friends or watch a little tv while monitoring my Maverick , reading cookbooks and updating my cooking log. I think I have cooked almost every week for over 20 years.
I do know that I am much like the fisherman who spends his off season planning the coming years fishing season. Thats when I would buy all the gadgets and "can't miss lures" and long for the opening day. I usually only buy consumables and replacement stuff when I am cooking a lot. I do however, make some mental notes of things I want to buy at some point. (insert MAK ** here)...
For example, I had been wanting a pellet smoker for over a year, but I did not buy mine until the end of March. I loaded up on supplies and accessories at that time too. Maybe others have this same affliction?
I cook all year but in the summer I tend to do quicker cooks but it really doesn't have anything to do with the weather. I'm just home less - if I can make it work into my schedule I'm someplace like here:
I cook year round. Certain cooks are better/easier in the winter, such anything cold smoked, like steelhead trout/salmon. Whenever I cook, everyone in the neighborhood knows I am doing "something" that must be good.
