Will the green mountain grill do for my purpose.

Hi there,
I am new to the forum so thanks for your help in advance. I currently cook pork shoulders on a 22" Weber charcoal kettle BBQ using oak chunks to flavour. I use a BBQ guru thermostat with it and it cooks the pork shoulder great and holds the temp within 2 to 3 degrees of the setting for up to 12 hours without disturbing. I want to try to make life easier as I am doing farmers markets here in the UK where I sell the pulled pork. Therefor I cook all week through. So my question is, will I get as good as results with a consistent temperature on a GM grill. And in your opinion will it be easier to run, clean and set up than my current Bbq? Thanks for your time, Matt.

A pellet cooker will simplify the whole operation and depending on which pellet pit you buy you'll be able to cook more pork. However, the setup you're using now adds more smoke flavor than a stock pellet pit so your product flavor will change unless you make adjustments to increase the smoke flavor profile in your pellet cooker.
If you're looking at a GMG I would encourage you to do more homework.

Not sure where to start. A GMG is basically a nicer Treager. Treager is what got me into smoking so I am thankful for that. Folks where I live think good pulled pork can come from a slow cookers.

I am not sure and others can chime in a GMG will not maintain 2/3 degrees, all pellet smokers have some swing.
MAK has the best pellet smoker controller on the market and is one of many reasons why I ordered one.

Also Mr. MAK says I can smoke 8 butts at once. My Treager was full at 6. How many butts do yor need to do at once?

Welcome do the site and glad to have ya,

Which pellet grill

Any pellet grill will cook the butts you need. I am not sure what is available in the UK and what power 110 or 220 version you would need. All pellet grills need air flow around the food too. I am guessing the GMG Dealer in England is near you and maybe why you are considering that brand. The advantage will be how many you can cook at one time versus your current set up. Pellet grills do have built in temp swings to create smoke . You will not find the 3 degrees you get with a Guru. All that said if this is a business venture I would recommend a Pellet grill that would withstand the rigors of daily use. We use a MAK almost daily and treat it like a plow mule. We have serial # 68 so it is a old one and it works like the day it was new.

Hi again and many many thanks for the valuable replies. I thinks the problem I have is there are only 2 brands to choose from here in the UK. There is the GMG and the Louisiana pellet grills, not sure which is best? If anyone knows of a supplier of the Mak or any other quality grill here in the UK I would love to know, but I don't think there are. I was looking at electric smokers such as the Cookshack, but some people say the smoke flavour is not too prevalent on products done in these. That's why I started going down the route of the pellet grill. Any thoughts on the electric compared to the pellet grill would be appreciated too please. I noticed that Jimbarbeque recommends the Mak, could you please tell me if you use that for a business and if so do your customers really like the results from the pellet grill. All in all I am at a crossroads and not sure which way to go now I want to expand the business a little. I am really happy with the product I have, but require the ease of using some other way of smoking, without a big financial commitment ( yet!). Hi Scooter and thanks too for your reply. Could you describe what is meant by altering the smoke profile and how is the done please?
Thanks again for everyone who has replied and I take note of what you have stated.
Kind regards, Matt.

Memphis exports 230 volt grills to a dealer in Germany. I don't know if this would be geographicaly undesireable, but if you want to PM me I can provide a link to their web site.

The adjustments to smoke profile I meant was to add a smoke generator of some kind like a Smoke Daddy or Amazen smoker tube or tray or other smoke generator. The induction fan in a pellet cooker is necessary to keep the firepot fed with oxygen but is also pushing the smoke out of the pit which results in a smaller smoke profile on your product. The smoke is not allowed to linger in contact with the meat as it is in your kettle of other non pellet smoker.
I prefer the Smoke Daddy (pic below) as it produces volumes of smoke. I've seen youtube videos of the amazen and it just can't compare to what a Smoke Daddy throws out. The upside to the Amazen is there is no hole to be drilled in your cooker. The downside to that is the Amazen takes up space inside your cooker and requires you to lift the lid whenever you need to tend it.
There are ups and downs to both but you can do the research on that.

OK The green mountain is a great unit for the money....as far as imported (chinese) I believe them to be the best...ONe thing to consider is the elements....You may want to look at the cabinet smoker instead...like a backwoods.
