Looking for some tips advice on my first pellet grill/smoker. I am looking to spend $1000-$2000 on it after all the goodies. I would like it to be tall enuff to do a few beer can chickens at once (maybe a turkey). Been use a ng grill and chips for a long time and cook every thing from prime rib to fish. Will add that i live in the desert and the wind has a way of trying to blow any fire i have going out every time i walk away.

So lets here your stories,tips,opinions.

I had been going for a green mountain grill because all of the features.

Thanks in advance.

The MAK one star would be my first choice. With all the options you can get for it you would still be within budget
plus they have the remote pellet boss. You can't go wrong buying a MAK..and you can't go wrong buying from Big Poppa. So if you're serious about buying..do your homework, ask lots of questions then buy a MAK.

Honestly the MAK 1 Star is a good deal for the money. The Pellet Boss is what MAKes the MAK 2 Star such a great grill. The MAK 1 Star has the exact same Pellet Boss. Even if you think that you may not use the Program Cook features, which I think is Great! The Pellet Boss does so much in the background controlling temps and smoke output. There is no extra knobs or settings. It is all controlled by the Pellet Boss so you can attend to something else. Meat temp probes: a lot of grills have one; the MAK Grills three. You may think I won't use three. I use three when cooking briskets. One in the flat one in the point and one in the flat under the point. Or you could be cooking two beer can chickens. You could have one in each chicken checking temps. We own two MAK Two Star Grill which makes me a little bias. I do use the program cooks a lot and would not want to be without it. The two things I would do different if I did it over again. Is I wouldn't buy a entry level grill at $995 and then have to trade it in for a MAK. The other is I would buy both of them from Big Poppa.

thanks I love the one star and the two star...I cook the most on my one stars....just handy and I believe they put out a ton of smoker for a pellet grill. the accessories that the mak has are second to none

Hey Jim you are so right , buying that entry level grill is such a waste of money. I could have paid for half of my MAK with that money. Oh well life is a learning experience.

The MAK 1 star has my vote. We've done so many different things on ours from low & slow pork shoulders & ribs, baked pizzas, cheesecake, grilled steaks & chops, made smoked sausage, hot-smoked summer sausage... the list goes on. And nothing that we've done on it has disappointed.

There is plenty of smoke flavor and the quality is worth every penny. Since it's aluminized steel with a powder coat finish, you won't have to worry about rust issues. And like Jim already said, the pellet boss is THE BOSS!

The one accessory you should add right away is a half (or full) upper rack (we got 2 half upper racks). Even a single half upper rack will greatly expand what you can do and how much you can put on the grill.

The rest of the accessories you can add as budget allows.

That's my 2¢! :)
