Thanksgiving with the Fam

Well, finally getting around to posting our Thanksgiving! I will start off by quoting my Dad; "You win, we will cook both turkeys on the MAK". Which was followed by 3 days of texts & comments that we all won since the turkey was the best we have ever had...and the leftovers were amazing.

One spatchcocked with Obie-Cue's Sunshine Grilling Spice & Desert Gold

We had to maneuver a bit to fit both birds on Minnie, but we got it done!!

Set to 275*, using both thermometers on they go.

I pre-baked the pumpkin & apple, blackberry pies.

Letting everything cook, time to chill & enjoy dad's new recliner!

Smaller, spatchcock bird is done:

Now to add the family recipe stuffing (kept it traditional this year, watch out at Christmas, may just bust out with crazy stuffing)

Kristen that looks great! Nice job for your first turkey try. But I must admit I'm a little miffed. No picture of the blackberry pie! Yum!

Great cook Kristen, everything looks delicious. I am confused a bit though. When I spatchcock, I cut out the backbone instead of splitting the breast. Is this an alternate method that works just as well?

Ditto, I cut out the backbone and remove the chine bone.

Woot! I knew they'd concede victory to you once they tasted your smoked turkey!

Great job Kristen!

Try the pies, especially the Pecan Pie, cooked in the MAK. It will pick up just a slight hint of smoke that just sets it off. You'll never want pecan pie any other way! ;)
