Whatdid you do for your vacation?

My vacation is in October at a very rustic Cape Cod cottage in Truro, MA. The house has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 12 but but there are usually 6 of us at most, plus a couple of dogs. Although, there are some fabulous restaurants in the area we eat out only once and I get to cook for the 10 days we are there. The best part of cooking for the group is that they do all the clean-up!

OK. I prefer the stay at home sit by the pool, or go camping and fish vacations. My wife has been wanting to do the East Coast history thing for about 4 years, so I finally gave in. It was not relaxing, but what a trip! I saw more things in two weeks than I thought possible! Started in New York City, then to Philadelphia, PA (with a night in Ocean City), then on to Washington D.C. I have relatives in all three areas, but most was sight seeing. I did not get to sample much of the fine cuisine (but I did have a couple of things in PA that I will try to replicate). I have been back about a week and am finally back to normal. I have never included photos of myself or family, but here goes:

If you have not seen the 9/11 Memorial, pictures don't do it justice (new World Trade Center in the background, not yet completed):

Sporting the BPS garb! I wore MAK and BPS shirts quite a bit, but everybody asked me if BPS was a Smoke Shop. All I could come up with was "it is a different type of smoking!:

And the whole family from Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center):

And finally, a memorial in DC. After seeing the Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, and this, you become very appreciative of what you have because of people that were willing to give their lives. 3 of these 6 people lost their lives in this battle. I have never served, but very much appreciate those that have:

My wife and I love spending time in Bend Oregon during the summer. We were there two weeks ago and went up to Phils to ride our mountain bikes. We ended up hitting whoops and slolam. These are among the top trails to ride in the Nation.
We are going back this week to rip it up again.

All our Vacations are typically around BBQ - Did go to Florida for a Disney trip in December... but outside of that... this year:
Spent a week in Langley, BC with Angie Quaale and David Gassaway. Always wonderful food there. Fresh spot prawn season, fresh crabs... GREAT Pho place on the bypass... Then we taught a couple of classes and cooked the Cloverdale rodeo!

Second trip was NY! We did this trip 3 years ago, and the girls BEGGED to go again... but switch it up just a little bit. So we started in Boston NY - cooking the Boston Hills BBQ fest, and worked our way to Pleasant Valley (just off the Taconic, N of NYC.) and stayed with our good friends the Keevers. I went into Manhattan to do a little work at the "day job" and the girls toured the FDR home, checked out the outside of CIA, but didn't get a tour scheduled.(next trip!) We have a friend in school there, so love hearing all about CIA. Then since the girls had not done NYC before, it was off to the Bronx Zoo, F&J Pine's, etc. Bada bing, bada boom. Finally, we hit where they really wanted to go... Lake Placid. That place can have it's own thread. LOVE it!

We had originally planned to come out to Mesquite, NV again this year, and defend our title, but the Lake Placid win means we qualified for the World Food Championships in Vegas... so I can't afford two Vegas trips in that short a period, so Kim and I will be home for anniversary this year, and in Vegas in November.

Our final mini vacation this year will be in California, over Lauren's birthday. We haven't told them Mom and Dad will be gone yet. They won't be happy they don't get to cook with us in CA. Esp. when they find out where we'll be.

I'm hoping I get to schedule one other long weekend in.... in Lynchburg, TN. We've made some great local friends there also, that I hope I am lucky enough to go see.

A few pics from our trips:

This is why we love BBQ. This is part of our NY BBQ family. We had friends from Long Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Pleasant Valley all come in and meet us at Pine's. (since we weren't going to see them at a comp!)

The girls posing with dinner. That strafed concrete with 2 inch lip that they are standing on is the 1980 olympic oval (speed skating). directly behind them is where we took the gold in hockey!!!

Mom and Dad taking a little gold of our own!

Next year, who knows where we'll go!! More in the PNW/CO areas? New England? We'll see what the girls sports schedules and interests warrant. But if the is a BBQ contest there, there's a chance we will be too

I spent 4 days at ComicCon, annual comic book, media and pop culture convention. It is tons of people watching! And enjoying the company of 160,000 other NERDS.

Thought about going to Boston? I went to NOLA a few years ago and LOVED it, but I don't know if it's the best place for the kids. I didn't bring mine and I feel like they would have been bored there and not appreciate the awesome Creole culture NOLA has. As a Boston native, I can tell you that there are a ton of activities Boston has for kids, and it has one of the best children's museums that I have been to (The Museum of Science). There are a ton of fun things to do in MA overall and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Started off with my first trip to Canada, 10 days. Went up to Fernie with some friends who were from there. Beautiful place. We had a blast and hope to make it back next year.

Did some ridding at Fernie alpine resort. First time Mt bike ridding a ski hill. Fun Fun Fun. Defiantly tested my abilities. Have some videos but don't ride like Carter (bend trip) so I won't post them. Here is a video from youtube of Phat Larry's. Loved that track.

Got home packed. Heading to The Netherlands for 6 weeks the next morning. Had a great beer run for what others say is the best beer in the world.
