Zacky, I have owned a Traeger Lil' Tex Elite for about 18 months, and use it almost every day. I love the grill. Their Service Department has been overseen by the same man (an American!) for nearly 30 years, and its always been quick to respond if I have a question. (Have had no service issues with the exception of the hot rod going out once, which they promptly replaced.) Why would you want to buy a knock-off, especially being a trained chef who presumably appreciates reliable equipment?
I eneded up buying an inexpensive lp gas smoker, a GOSM from Wal-Mart.
After all the knowledge & feedback from this site (thanks!) I really wanted a MAK or Yoder but in the end couln't justify their price.
Down the road, if my passion for smoking grows, I might want to move on to something more sophisticated.
