I plan to get a minimally processed turkey to cook in my pellet grill. I plan to wet brine it and wonder if it really matters if I purchase a frozen or fresh turkey? With today's flash freezing processes I often think that frozen foods are as good as fresh.
But what about turkey? Since I will...
My Traeger Texas pellet grill is about 8 years old. I’ve used it probably 1,000 time.
Now I see the fire pot has burned through in two places. I haven’t noticed any change in performance but wonder if there is a safety issue involved? Any ideas? Time for a new pellet grill?
Hi,
I guess I just like gadgets.
I see non-stick reusable grill mats advertised and I keep wondering if I need one to use in my pellet grill?
But then I wonder if, since the mats seem to be solid but flexible, they might block much of the smoke that gives our food such a wonderful flavor?
What...
I brine chicken, turkey, and fish before cooking in the pellet grill.
But what about red meat? Do you folks brine steaks, chops, and such? I hadn't even thought of doing that until I was recently asked.

We are hosting a family get-together in a couple of days and I just returned from a meat market with 4 slabs of pork spareribs.
I just had a bright idea. Since I'm going to be very busy the day of the party why not smoke the ribs in my pellet grill a day ahead of time, leave the slabs intact...
What do you folks use to do the cutting when you Spatchcock chickens? I only do maybe 10 spatchcocked chickens a year. My old and dull kitchen shears hardly do the job anymore. They weren't of good quality to start with.
Any suggestions as to what make/model of shears I should get? Also where...
We purchased a half-ham from Costco. It is fully-cooked, smoked, spiral cut, and comes with a packet of a glaze.
I wonder if I should heat this ham in my pellet grill to add a bit more smoke flavor or should I heat it in the regular oven?
Any ideas?
Glenn
Hi,
In about 10 days we'll leave with our trailer and go to Quartzsite for a few days where we'll camp with 10 to 14 friends for a few days. We take turns providing main meals. For our meal, I plan to take 4 slabs of pork spareribs that I will smoke the day before we leave home. (We will also...
I have a 12" Tube A-Maze-N smoke generator on order from Big Poppa.
For you folks that already have this or a similar device, how do you light it?
Do you use a butane lighter, a propane or map torch, or what?
Just wondering what works well.
Thanks for your info.
Glenn
We will soon be going on a houseboat trip and everyone is responsible for a meal or two.
I plan to take a couple of slabs of beef ribs (prime rib bones) and a couple of slabs of pork spareribs. I'll cook the ribs in my pellet grill ahead of time.
We will leave home on a Wednesday morning and...
Hi,
On my Traeger Texas grill (model 075) I have noticed that when there is no outside breeze the temperature indicated on the digital controller (lefthand side of cooking area) is about the same as the thermometer reading (righthand side of cooking area). But, on breezy days, it's almost always...
I'm still new to pellet grilling.
This weekend I thought I'd practice grilling whole chickens on my Trager Texas pellet grill. I plan to brine 2 chickens and then cook them as follows:
1. One whole chicken on a beer can
2. One whole chicken "spachcocked"
I figure that by doing a chicken each...
I'm getting ready for my first beer can chicken. I plan to do it on my new Traeger pellet grill.
Questions:
1. Should I brine the chicken first? If so, then what is a good brine?
2. I thought I'd use some Byron's Butt Rub. Or do you folks have a better idea?
3. Planning to set the Traeger for...
I plan to cook pork spareribs as well as beef ribs in my pellet grill for a July 4 party. I plan to get the pork spareribs from Costco and wonder if it would be OK to buy them now and put them in the freezer until I need to cook them? That way I don't have to worry about going to Costco a day...
Have any of you folks used a vacuum tumbler to brine or marinate? If so, what do you think? Is it a must-have or just a gimmick?
My son-in-law has one that he uses to marinate flank steak for making beef jerkey on his Traeger. He loves it.
But, I'm wondering how it works on chicken, steaks...
I am brand new to pellet grilling.
I now own a Traeger Tex Grill, model BBQ075.
Here is a question:
I wish to grill (smoke?) pork spareribs. In the past I have used a barrel smoker and always smoked the ribs at around 220 deg. for several hours. My Traeger cookbook has several recipes for...
